The seminar is part of IDC’s electronics recycling and Green IT research programs, which are designed to help decision makers understand the role of technology in addressing the challenges and opportunities amidst today’s energy, environment, and sustainability requirements. Since being launched in 2008, the initiative has produced important research on data center power management and automation, the promotion of green procurement in Asia/Pacific, and document management policies in the enterprise. IDC’s Green Recycling and Asset Disposal for the Enterprise (G.R.A.D.E.) program, designed to assist enterprises in identifying the best available options for the retirement of their IT assets, in an important part IDC’s overall initiative toward environmental responsibility and sustainability.

Building Upon A Forward-Looking Policy

In March of 2010, ISRI’s Board of Directors unanimously adopted a forward-looking policy and set of guidelines for the export of electronic scrap. TechTurn Receives World’s First R2 | RIOS Certification for Electronics Reuse and Recycling

AUSTIN, TX January, 6th 2010.

It took a three-year multi-stakeholder process, facilitated by the U.S. EPA, to develop the first-of-its-kind accredited electronics recycling standard called the Responsible Recycling Practices, or “R2” for short. This new standard fully supported by the U.S. EPA, major computer OEM’s such as Lenovo and Dell, the Information Technology Industry Council (ITI), state and local governments, and the Electronic Recyclers’ Industry Association (ISRI) is a stringent set of requirements for electronics recyclers’ environmental, worker health and safety, and security practices. R2 includes general principles and specific practices for recyclers disassembling or reclaiming used electronics equipment.
