TechTurn, EPA Hosts Second Annual Earth Day Computer Collection Event in Washington, D.C.
TechTurn Joins the EPA, National Recycling Coalition and Dell to Highlight Value of Computer Refurbishment
AUSTIN, Texas – April 17, 2008 – TechTurn, the trusted leader in technology resale, refurbishing, and secure data retirement to the most demanding Fortune 500 companies, today announced it will again join the EPA in hosting a free computer collection event on April 20th in Washington, D.C.. TechTurn sponsored a similar event with the EPA last Earth Day in D.C. and is a natural partner of EPA due to the company’s Zero Landfill Policy. TechTurn will process all computer equipment collected during the event through their facility in Richmond, Virginia.
“E-waste is an important issue that needs to be addressed and TechTurn is proud to undertake this issue along side the EPA this Earth Day,” said Jeff Zeigler, CEO of TechTurn. “Earth Day is an important part of our continued efforts to securely refurbish every possible component we receive to meet the escalating demand for affordable used technology.”
A United Nations University study found that reusing electronics can be up to 20 times better for the environment and TechTurn has long been a proponent in delivering value from unwanted electronics through refurbishing the devices, instead of simply reducing the equipment to its basic properties for recycling.
“This event provides D.C.-area residents an easy opportunity to recycle unwanted computers and help protect the environment,” said Molly O’Neill, EPA Assistant Administrator for the Office of Environmental Information and Chief Information Officer. “We are excited to work with organizations that are showing a strong commitment to corporate citizenship and setting an example for other businesses to follow.”
Through its state-of-the-art facilities, TechTurn processes more than one million electronic devices yearly and performs thorough data destruction on all hard drives to meet stringent industry standards. Once the hard drives are wiped, TechTurn issues certificates of data destruction to confirm that strict security measures have been followed. These products are rigorously tested and more than 80 percent are reused or resold with no trash or waste. All non-usable components are properly disposed of using recycling processes that meet or exceed environmental standards and adhere to TechTurn’s strict no-landfill policy.
